Annemarie

Annemarie is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio but after years of thinking the earth was flat, the Rocky Mountains called to her and she headed west in 1995. After seven years in Montana and Utah she made her way to San Francisco in 2002 and never looked east again! She worked in luxury hotel operations before pivoting to senior living in 2017.

Having experienced a tragic and personal loss in 2016, Annemarie embarked on a spiritual path to help her navigate the deep waters of her grief. She turned her pain into purpose and began helping others through their own journey through grief by sharing resources and spiritual tools and reframing grief as, simply, another expression of love.

After some repeated nudges and whispers from the Universe, Annemarie could no longer ignore her soul work to help others as a Grief Guide. She founded The Koru Collective in 2022 to offer peer-to-peer support and lead workshops on navigating grief through spirituality. Her workshops offer attendees a chance to develop heart-centered tools for understanding and incorporating grief as they move forward in the wake of a loss.

Annemarie is an avid student and holds a BA in English, an MA in Anthropology and an Executive MBA. She is an Usui Reiki Master-Teacher, a soul-centered Tarot Reader, a student of esoteric astrology and a Certified Grief Educator through the work of world-renowned grief expert David Kessler. She has also completed Suicide Support Group Training through the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention.

Some of Annemarie’s favorite things include, in no particular order, Rocco the Jack Russell, champagne, oysters, cheese, the ocean, jam bands from the South, the Grateful Dead and Burning Man.

She lives her life by her personal mantra Surrender, Trust, Do.

In Gratitude

I would not be the grief warrior I am without the support of new, old and unexpected friends. Thank you for your gift of holding space when I cried, laughed, shared stories, talked about signs, wondered about the direction of my life, wanted to give up and more. All of you have been an instrumental part of my journey through grief, an inspiration for this work I do and a reminder that love is the only thing that truly matters.

Thank you to my love Scott for being my greatest teacher.

Thank you to the Three Musketeers in Spirit who are supporting me; my father, Mr. Marini and Mrs. Nichols.

And in no particular order, thank you to Judie, Jeff, Edison, Ruth, Rania (in Spirit), Tish, Shana, Jose, Chelsea, Guadalupe, Atticus, Kirsten, Diana, Bernadette, Vernon, Susan, Jamie, Elizabeth, Allison, Shelley, Hannah, Tiki Tom, Justin, Anne, John, Judy, Jane, Marichu, Emily, Silvia and Margit (in Spirit). Even if we are no longer in touch, know that I carry the imprint of your support in my heart.

Finally, a very special thank you to Carola, who shared her story about losing her partner to mental illness. I am honored she trusted me with the great privilege of witnessing her pain, her grief and the profound love she has for her partner.  She holds a special place in my heart as my first “unofficial” client with this work.
